November 12, 1979 - September 29, 2005
Born and raised in El Paso, TX, Belinda Olivas had been playing mariachi music for a decade and was always bound by her love for it. She was fortunate enough to play with outstanding musicians in vaious groups, one of them being Mariachi Juvenil Tenampa, who in a short period of time gained outstanding success. This particular group had the opportunity to travel to Europe in 1998 with the Department of Defense to entertain the troops overseas. For two full months they traveled to many bases stationed in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Greece, Italy and Spain.
Belinda was first introduced to mariachi when she was a freshman in high
school. Throughout her participation in the high school mariachi, she had
the honor of being taught by the best mariachi teacher known in El Paso, Jose
Parada. She also met her husband of three years, Omar Olivas, who currently
plays with Mariachi Los Arrieros. She was one of the original members of Mariachi
Flores Mexicanas. She worked full time as a legal secretary with Attorney
Joe A. Spencer. Belinda and Omar owned two dogs, Jack and Jill. On her spare
time she loved going to the movies, relaxing at home, catching up on things,
reading, shopping and spending time with friends.
